History of the Magnolia Ladies Auxiliary
|
|
Some of our first members (starting at the top of the table clockwise top of the table clockwise) Bridget Lane, Sharon Gooch, Doris Semans, Pat Thompson- May, Waneta Rentz, Beverly Hollinger and Diane Rentz.
|
In 1943 a group of Magnolia women gathered together to form the Magnolia Ladies Auxiliary. There were eleven ladies present at Redmen’s Hall for the first meeting, presided over by President Bess Dill.
In October 1948 the Auxiliary was incorporated. Presently, the auxiliary is in good standing and active. The Magnolia Ladies Auxiliary is proud to have had Margaret Wilcutts (1952) and Doris Semans (1971-1972) accept the chairs of the Kent County Association. Additionally, Doris Semans (1985-1986) served as Delaware Volunteer Firemen’s Association Ladies Auxiliary President.
When the Auxiliary first started they served public dinners upstairs in the fire hall. Young girls from around town would assist the auxiliary since the auxiliary did not have sufficient help.
Today the Ladies Auxiliary work hard at fundraisers, planning, sponsoring and hosting dinners, banquets, wedding receptions, basket bingo, craft shows and serving meals at the fire school to enable them to provide financial assistance to the Magnolia Fire Company.
The Ladies Auxiliary is there when our firemen need our help and are extremely proud of being a vital part of the Magnolia Fire Company.
The Ladies Auxiliary currently has 12 lifetime members and 30 members.
